Data & AI Transparency
Genesis Field Notes is a notebook-first application. AI is optional and secondary to your own notes.
Off by default
AI features are disabled until you explicitly enable them in Settings. The first time you open AI settings, no network request is made.
Your API key, your provider
- You provide your own OpenAI API key.
- The key is validated once, then stored in the macOS Keychain.
- Keys never enter notebook files, exports, logs, or telemetry.
- You are responsible for provider usage charges and account compliance.
What gets sent
When you explicitly request an AI action, selected prompts, note content, and related context may be sent to OpenAI through a secure request made by the app’s native layer (not the web view).
Nothing is sent to AI providers unless you trigger an AI action after enabling the feature and providing consent.
What does not happen
- No background AI processing of your notebook.
- No training of models by Genesis Field Notes.
- No selling or sharing of notebook content.
- No AI requests without your explicit action.
Your notebook remains primary
AI responses are intended to support reasoning, not replace your notes. You should review AI output before relying on it for important decisions.
